Of course, as with everything that comes from the internet, a whole host of hysterical memes have generated around Minecraft. Some groups have even gone so far as to devote years of their lives to recreating the world of Harry Potter or the entire continent of Westeros from A Song of Ice and Fire. One quick Google image search is all anyone needs to discover the amazing (and not so amazing) things Minecraft players have created. It simply drops its players into a procedurally generated open world and lets them run wild. Minecraft is arguably the quintessential sandbox game. Minecraft is so prevalent that an education edition was created for schools to use. Heck, there are even mobile versions of the game out, and it will soon be getting a port to the Nintendo Switch. It was fully released in 2011 for the PC and was quickly ported over to Xbox, Nintendo, and PlayStation consoles. The beta for Minecraft was initially released way back in 2009.
